Does anyone use this Hanna PH tester?

Description: Hanna Instruments Waterproof pH Tester with Replaceable Electrode w/ accuracy ±0.05 pH


Is it good?

I use the pHep 4 model. The accuracy is ±0.10. The pHep 5 has an accuracy of ±0.01 I believe. They're both waterproof and have replaceable electrodes -- but I'm not sure which ±0.05 model you're referring to.

When it's calibrated properly, I've found it to be just as accurate as my Neptune Systems pH Monitor (.01 precision), and it's within it's standard error to every test kit I've used as well.

It seems to be accurate, doesn't require constant re-calibration and (in my opinion) is worth it when compared to test tube kits / color matching.

cool....it is on sale at Fosters and Smith and I ordered one....I have a very hard time with the manual tests and the color variations....they are too fine for me....

Yep -- I try to go electronic whenever it's feasible. The (affordable) test kits are just too unreliable and I'm starting to think I'm color blind

The only digital tester I ever bought that I regretted (from F&S btw) was the pinpoint nitrate monitor -- it required constant recalibration, and was more of a pain than even the API nitrate test kit believe it or not. Fortunately, F&S let me return it without any hassle.

You'll be happy with that model Make sure to pick up some pH 7 and pH 11 calibration solution -- and don't throw it out when you're done with them, just pour them back in to the bottles and wrap em up well in a zip lock for when you need to re-calibrate six months down the road or so..

Yeah I have decided instead of throwing good money after bad with all these test kits I am just going electronic and take the hit on the front end. The last straw was my salifert test kits off the charts. I don't want to make corrections until I can get more accurate readings. I also ordered the PO4 LR monitor....if I am going to jump off the bridge you gotta do it in style

D'oh! It's ph 7.01 and ph 10.01 (not 11) Sorry about that!

Another thing worth looking at (or better yet, keeping an eye on while many of us are risking whether or not they're results are worth it) is www.aquariumwatertesting.com (AWT) -- I'm considering doing this monthly.

you know I have been following that and waiting to see where it goes in the long haul...if it looks promising I will jump in too.....but on something like this time will tell.

I would not recommend re-using pH calibration solutions.

The 10.01 is very reactive with CO2 once it is exposed to air.

And yes, I've tested that Hanna meter against a $500 desktop model pH meter and it gave the same reading.
