I'm not trying to be immature with this question, but I'm seeing my new coral exhibit some strange behavior. I picked up what I believe is a favia coral a week ago and it seems to be adjusting well in my tank. However, this evening I saw it doing something weird. About every 45 seconds, the whole colony would quickly contract and expel what looks like brown material into the water. From what I can tell, this brown material is being expelled from the mouths of the polyps. Is this how corals expel waste material, and is this normal behavior, or is there something wrong with my coral? How does the digestive system of coral polyps work? Does this vary much between species?
I did 'feed' the coral about 10ml of D.T.'s Photoplankton 2 days ago. I've also noticed that for about the past 12-24 hours, my tank water appears a bit cloudy. However, my skimmer has not been producing any noticeable increased amount of skimmate.
