does my 55g have enough flow for sps?

i really want sps and im doin ga new tank swap and new sump and everything and i will have a mag 5 return and a mag 9.5cl w/ scwd. is this enough flow for sps?

my 55 has a mag 5 return, tunze 6000 with controller going full blast, 2 MJ' 900s and i am not satisfied with the flow...i am going to add a seio and pull the MJ's , definitely going to Mag 7 or 9 possibly on SCWD like you say, mod an mj and skimp the seio or wait for the tunze nanos to come out...i would like to add another tunze and could if they werent so big!!!

i say you dont have enough flow IMO...you need ALOT more

I started out with 20x turnover and I've upped it maybe about a half dozen times in the last few months. I'm now up to 45x turnover in a 65 and I'm finally satisfied. If you're strapped for cash you might look into making some MJ mods that turn them into stream pumps (see thread here on RC). I'm getting about 1600 gph out of an MJ 1200 with an Octura 1435 prop and about 1000 gph out of an MJ 1200 with a Dumas 1.25" prop. You might also look at the Swirler Stein thread. Great combo.

You can also go to MJmods.com and just buy the Maxi-Jet upgrades.

Im almost happy w/ a tunze 6060, 3 mj 1200s, and a mag 7 return. Im thinkin about doing a maxi mod to one of the 1200s. So not enuf to me for SPS.

absolutely not . try for 20-30 times turn over after head loss at least

but you have a penductor; the only flow you have is the return pump?
