Does this seem right

I got this skimmer used with pump, when I first set it up I set the water line to right at the start of the riser tub and the end of the black box. My riser would turn brown within a few days from the ETSS label all the way up to the top. I adjusted it a little and have the water level about 1/4" into the riser and noticed it seems the bubbles are super wet up to the ETSS label and I am not getting near as dark skimmate, is this right for wet skimming and for the operation of the skimmer. Shoud I have it this way or the other way where I was cleaning it weekly

Here is the old way I had it set, that brown is only a weeks worth of build up

I can't answer your question, but try the lighting, filter and other equipment forum. These are the folks to ask.

I collect my skimmate daily....its not totally dark....buts its kinda borwny greenish and stinky one....that second picture looks pretty grosse.....it was definetly too low....1st picture looks not bad....maybe a little too wet....if it foams up like that for a while then lower it a little bit less and check in few hours....
keep playing until you can adjust it to the rate you can collect....I prefer to skim at a rate that i can change it in 2 day max
