I have a 25 gallon system with a kalkawassar topoff. I also dose 6:1 baking/washing soda and caclium chloride. I have a couple small SPS colonies, and a bunch of frags. Lots of coralline. Lots of euphilia, and two clams. They are a 2.5 inch maxima and a 2.5 inch crocea.
I did an experiment, and if I don't dose anything but kalk, my system drops 3 dKH alkalinity and about 15 mg/L caclium in 24 hours. I just cant keep a steady dkH because it drops so fast. Could it be because of my clams? Does it sound like its dropping too fast even for a couple small clams?
I'm thinking I'm going to get rid of one or both of them to try keep a more constant alkalinity. Or should I be looking into something else? I don't want to keep dosing like this every day and bouncing the alkalinity around like that.
