Done with Cycle, but Low Ak

So my tank has completed the cycle and as far as ammonia goes, it's ready to add the clownfish that I've had quarantined. The only problem, is that the AK is hovering around 6.5. Is this something i need to worry about at this point since i don't have have any corals or even a CUC? It would be just the clowns for now. My plan is to keep them in the tank for a few weeks before adding a CUC and let things get a little dirty in the tank for them.

My QT tank's alkalinity is just fine (8.7), which i don't understand since it's made with the same salt mix and RODI water (my own unit). I have a few tupperware containers full of the same sand that's in the DT in the QT. The rocks in the DT are BRS reef saver rocks. I have a 30g sump and i just hooked up the skimmer.

I also just added my ATO, do i need to look into dosing kalkwasser? The PH seems to be around 8.2, but my crappy API test really makes it hard to tell. I was going to buy a better PH test, but a guy in the store said don't worry about it and just watch the Alkalinity.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Are you using an api alk test? They aren't very accurate. Get red sea or seifert test. Much more precise. I would do that before adding anything.

Tests kits for pH are also very inaccurate. You need a pH pen to get a better measurement. The guy at the store is correct, if your alk is good, your pH should be fine.

The API test for alkalinity is garbage, lol. I'm using a salifert. I'm getting apex in November, so i'm trying to hold off on a kinda pricey pen since that will have a probe. Thanks tho

Bump, anyone? Is this something i need to fix now or can I add the clowns and slowly bring it up with baking soda over the next few weeks? Is there a better way to fix it? I'm still at a loss as to why its so low when the Qt tank which has even less coral substrate in it is doing so well.
