Just a word of encouragment in keeping this coral. I received a frag of Don's cabbage leather about 4 months ago and it is growing rapidly. The piece I got was about the size of a pinky finger, now it is bigger than my whole hand.
I seem to have trouble with some corals (mainly LPS) but this one is easy to take care of. It doesn't require direct feeding and can withstand alot of different environments and conditions. I have 220 W of lighting over my 75 and it seems to be more than adequate for this coral.
Hi Don, a few questions for ya. How big will they get, have you had any toxic troubles from them and I've been reading up on them and it seems that colored ones do better in higher lite, is yours brown or colored? Thanks, Pamela
The cabbage coral will get as big as you let it, but it is very easy to control through propagation. Mine is currently about volleyball size and needs to be cut back, again. I haven't noticed any toxicity problems with other corals. There are several other corals growing into and on the cabbage. It is a pinkish brown color and should do well under PC, VHO or MH lighting. They grow in intertwining lobes or petals and look like a large flower. They make excellent center pieces when they get large.
Don, it has indeed become my centerpeice I have it in the 150 under 2 250 mhs and 4 vhos on a shelf across the center of the tank. Thanks again. Pamela
