Well my Alveopora catali just died.....I knew that it would happen based on what I read after I bought the coral from LFS. What I have read is that this particular LPS coral is native to reefs with nutrient rich water which is not contrary to keeping a healthy reef tank.
I am running a Next Reef MR1 Shorty Media Reactor with Seachem SeaGel which works very well at minimizing nuisance algae and maintaining crystal clear water....again probably not a suitable environment for a flowerpot coral.
I am new to reefing and have learned to do my homework before purchasing a coral. Perhaps some of you talented reefers out there have had success with this coral...would love to hear some success stories with this difficult coral. I feed my tank phytoplankton, VitaChem and Rod's fish food....I thought this would be enough for the Flowerpot......I was wrong.
Moral of the story.....with so many amazing LPS corals out there...please steer clear of the Alveopora species.
