I made a thread earlier about how to my coral to my new MH.
I have 2x96watt pc's and am going to change the light to a 175 watt Mh xm 10k. I dont have screen and was wondering if i could just start the light at about 18" or so up and move it down an inch every day or a little less every day until i end up where i want it to be (approx 8 inches but not sure to get the light spread i want).

Does this sound ok? I would do the slowly work up the photo period method but, I want a smoother acclimation as i have seen in the past using this method on my frag tank.

Suggestions?
Thanks

That's sort of ok...but you really should do the screen method. You can pick up a roll of black window screen at Lowe's or Home Depot.

I just upgraded to halides from pc's ... I basically did what you were describing ... I raised them up and lowered them a bit every other day ... Also went w/ a shorter cycle and gradually ended up right where I wanted it ...
