I just have a few questions about what you dose to your tank
1. What do you dose your tank with
2. What brand is it
3. Why do you dose it
4. Does it change a lot of your water chemistry
Thanks for all the help Puffer21
I use Kent calcium in my water-change water to raise the calcium to around 500ppm. I don't dose iodine because I don't test for it. You shouldn't dose things that you don't test for.
I use this system to dose my tank with Seachem Reef Buffer ... Seachem Reef Calcium Advantage ... Seachem Iodide ... Kent Iodine ... Kent Strontium with Molybdenum ... and Kent Iodine. I test for all of these and am trying to switch to Seachem from Kent (except the strontium because seachem's strontium doesn't come with molybdenum, which helps prevent cyano outbreaks and aids in biological processes such as denitrification) ... then make a solution in the jug accordingly to what chemicals have depleted. If no additions have been made to the tank in terms of inhabitants the depletion of all the chemicals is almost always the same ... hence I don't have to figure out each time how much of what chemical to add; I simply have it figured out.
If you are doing normal water changes you will be fine with shrimp and crabs. I never dose iodine and have never had a problem of my shrimp or crabs not molting. I guess if you are keeping a lot of them it would be wise to test and dose as needed.
