dosing with sugar

just wanted to know what peoples ideas on sugar dosing in a reef tank is,i tried it once a long time ago but i found allot of excessive algae growth.has anyone expirimented with this for better coral growth and calcium carbonate build up.

Organic carbon dosing is a fine way to go as part of an overall nutrient reduction scheme, but it seems as if folks experiences with sugar is poorer than with other organics (such as vodka and vinegar). I choose vinegar as it seems less prone to promote cyano than does vodka.
