So I'm considering a doubler for my Nikon 300mm....any thoughts as to the pros/cons on using one of these?

I would imagine the grain comes up a bit with one of these...Yes?!

By 'doubler', do you mean a teleconverter?

Can you give anymore details about the lens and camera and teleconverter? If the lens is a non AF-S lens, you may lose autofocus capability with the TC unit. There will a loss of light, leading to slower shutter speeds. This thread , and one it links to, has a good discussion of TC's and 300mm lens. The general feeling seemed to be that a 1.4 convertor was good but that 2.0 was problematic.

TCs do have their benefits but you need to take a look at the lens you are using it on and find out, as nickb stated, if it will match up with the TC or if you will lose functions. Plus you will lose a couple stops or more of light (a f/4 lens may become an f/7.1 or greater).

Which 300mm do you have? The f/4 or the most coveted f/2.8?
