Dow Flake this time of year

After searching all the local places for calcium chloride I was about to give up until winter. When I remebered that the concrete trucks on my job site carry this stuff during the winter. I had a 10 trucks come onto the job today and asked the nearest one if he had any "chloride". He starts saying that there is none in the load, but he had two bags on the side of the truck. I ask him if I could buy one from him and he says take it. FREE SCORE! I just wanted to pass the info along. If you are looking for it contact your local Redi-mix, Ozinga, or who ever delivers concrete. I am sure that they have "chloride" left over from last year. Hope this helps.

Has nothing to do with last year or winter. The concrete places always have it. Mohr off 290 at Harlem always has it.

What you can't get now is the pellet form used in ice melts. Though some hardware stores keep the leftover bags in storage.

Is there a difference between the flake and the pellet, chemistry wise? I have searched RC for ideas where to find it and have not seen any one mention concrete companies. I have found that pool stores, horse arenas, and auto part stores carry it.

Flake = dowflake
Pellet = peladow, many brand labels slapped on it, Prestone driveway heat being one.

Pellet is about 1/3 more concentrated. RHF's recipes give more precise ratios.

I see, oh well I figured that I would throw out the info in case anyone else was looking for it. BTW none of the stores around me had anything resembling calcium chloride even in the back or in storage.
