Drill Bit Size

I am in the process of setting up a 110. 48 x 18 x 30 footprint. I am planning on drilling 2 drain holes and 4 return holes. I was looking at using 1 1/2" bulkheads and according to savko.com I will need a 2 5/8" hole. I have been looking at drill bits and i have found a 2 1/2" bit and a 2 3/4" bit. Which one should i use? Also recomendations for the hole placements would be great.

i use a 2.5" diamond bit for all my 1.5" bulkheads..

as mentioned there is no point drilling a tank for air/water mix drains...use the bean system...your wife, family, friends, dog etc will be much happier, as will you...

i wouldnt bother drilling for the returns either...the potential for floods goes up exponentially...especially with four more holes...as they have to be a good distance down from the top of the tank (2.5" same as the diameter of the holes) which puts your lowest leak potential down about 5"...that is a lot of water to draijn out of your tank if a bulkhead leaks..or to siphon back if the plumbing leaks...

Thanks everyone. I think I will be doing the BeanAnimal setup. For my return pump i am thinking around 3600 gph at 0 feet. Should i go with the 1 1/2" bulkheads or do you think that a 1" bulkhead will work? In the link it said the amount of water being drained was 2000 gph. Thanks and now its time to start reading the BeanAnimal thread.

I would take the bulk head with you when you get the bit. I never fully trust what size they say and it would be a pain to go through all the work and it not fit.
