Drilled hole location

I just got my hands on a 55 gallon tank. I would like to drill two drain holes for the sump/ refuge. I can not decide where is the best location. Either on the back of the tank with a diy skimmer box around it, or on the bottom of the tank with a skimmer box also. What are the pros and cons of each?

It would be real nice to find out 'exactly' what is tempered and what is not first. I would want to go through the bottom, but I'd bet it's tempered. Through the back would be my 2nd choice.

I would prefer the bottom so it's just the very least rout of resistance to go. Straight down.

I would do it though the back and do a linear over flow if you can do that, it saves so much room in the tank and skims so much thinner

Unfortunately most 55 gallon tanks have a tempered bottom, not anywhere else though unless it was custom.
