Drilling 125 gallon aqueon

I assume there are some members here who have drilled there own tanks... I am not afraid to do it, I am a carpenter by trade and could probably handle it myself BUT... I figured if there is someone here who has done it before or multiple times that they could help me in the process? I'll buy the bit, could provide the drill and give ya some money for the help.

While he's a chip off the old block, he somehow inherited mad tank drilling skills! He drilled 6 perfect holes at least, while you managed to break at least 3 or 4 aquariums.

Honestly the hardest party is getting the hole to start exactly where you want it. The bit likes to walk around if free handing it. Use a wooden template clamped in place if you need a precise location. Go slow and your golden

Start drilling slowly with the drill bit tilted to an angle. Once you get a good groove, it wont walk on you anymore.

I rented a drill guide when I drilled the 300. Similar to this.

Think it was like 60 or 70 bucks.
Worth it, imo, for the tank I was drilling. Marine solutions used to have one they would rent out or loan, iirc.
The 40 breeders, just the wood guide.i taped it in place, was worried about clamping the glass too hard. Once the groove is cut, slow and steady.

Tilt the drill as Daquan says to get you started. But first, if you don't already know this part, get some plumbers putty and roll it out in a long snake like shape about 3/4 in tall Make that into a circle around you desired hole. Fill that with water to keep the saw from heating up. Then take your time, let drill do the work.

Glazier by trade and all I can say is if you have access to a movable still press i would definitely go that route. Take your time and make sure the drill is straight plenty of water and make sure you make the donut with plumbers putty.

I drilled it.... did it from the outside in which I hope wasn't a mistake. Had a couple small chips on my first hole. 2nd no problems. Thoughts?

Looks good. Another trick you can use next time around is to put tape over the opposite side and go really slow and light when you get towards the end, it will help keep it from chipping out so bad.
