hey adam those i am willing to bet are the old style with the ceramic shafts that break as well as they dont come with the attachment that goes on the end for better flow across a long tank.

Adam,
Marine Depot has the 3's for $31.99 and the 4's for $38.39. I was going to be making an order so shipping would be free...let me know if you are interested...

Frank, count me in for two Koralia 3's for the 120.
More info:
"I emailed hydor and this is what they sent me about the koralia pumps:
Because not every Koralia #2 and #3 were effected, we did not consider this an all out recall. If you check the label on your pump there is a 3 digit number on it. If it is 713, then you are OK. If it is 649 or 704, it could be effected by the defect. If it is, we will be happy to replace it for you. Please send it to the following address with your name, address and phone number so we know where to send the new one.

I use CaribSea Aragonite Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand in my 150. It seems like good sand but the CaribSea Oolitic sand is nice too. I am not sure which I like more but I think I would go with the Oolitic sand if I had it to do over. Either way with the amount of flow I have the only sand that is still around is under the rocks. I think Gary M uses the CaribSea Aragonite Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand in his tank so you may want to ask him.

Rumor has it that the Aragonite sand will start to calcify over time, it may have something to do with the calcium and or alkalinty balance with in the tank. If that happens you basicly have lime stone like substrate for a sand bed at that point. I'm not saying it will happen, but I have heard a few fellow reefers just recently discussing this happening to them. I had similar experience a few years back, but I can't remeber which sand it was at the time.

that is very interesing george. it seems to be happening in our RSDB in the zoo tank. it get a very hard almost rock solid layer on the top after a while of being in thereit almost seems like it is cemented together. i would be interested to know if we left it in there would it turn as hard as limestone...i think have have to make an experiment...lol...very cool tho.

I think that happens when you start with dry fresh argonite sand, and don't have a bacterial surface on the sand... this normally occurs when starting a tank fresh. I had this happen to parts of my 37
