dry rock

i was just on bulkreefsupply.com and saw that they sell dry live rock, or dry rock since i guess it wouldnt really be considered "live" anymore. point is that they sell it at a really good price. i already have about 70-80 lbs or lr and in my tank and about 40 lbs of ls, i would like to purchase this rock and put it in my tank along with the live rock i already have to seed it and make it all come "alive". how long do you think it would take for this dry rock to begin to look like my current lr? a couple months? year? also, does anyone know of any drawbacks to doing this? thanks for all the help!

the main draw back is all the dried stuff on it will need to decay off rasing your nitrates and make your skimmer go nuts for a wile unless you cure it in a tote for a couple weeks in ro water with many water changes. the big plus is that you pay for pound and dry rock weighs less than wet rock since there is no water in the rock to pay for. so whey you order 50lbs of dry you will get the amount like 75+ lbs of wet would look like in size. it will take months to a year befor its FULLY covered in coraline.

depending on how much adjunctly the dry rock you put in your tank it can be a problem.remember even the live rock you buy from your local pet shop isn't completely cure.i would prefer buying rock off someone breaking there tank down.that's the best rock you can buy!

yeah, the only problem with that is you have to hope that they everything with their tank is ok at the time of breakdown. i wouldnt want to inherit anyone else's porblems.
