Dwarf angel pair in a 40 Breeder?

My 40 Breeder currently consists of 1 B/W Clown. I had a pair but the male passed about a month ago. Although I think she might like having the tank all to herself, I would like to add 2 to 3 more fish. My plan now is to add another Ocellaris to hopefully repair with my female in the coming month but I would also love to add a pair of dwarf angels. A pair of Potter's angels is on top of my list but am also partial to the idea of a pair of Flame, Coral Beauty, Cherub or Flameback angels.

I have read up on Potter's quite a bit and am aware of the difficulties in keeping them healthy. From what I have read, Potter's live in colonies of Porites and would love to provide them with that type of environment in my tank. My tank has been up and running since June with some live rock that came from a tank that was up and running for a little over a year. Everything I have read indicates a mature tank is required for Potter's but the definition of "mature" seems to vary from site to site. IF it is possible to keep a pair of Potter's in a 40 Breeder, I will wait as long as is needed for my tank to "mature" so if anyone with experience in successfully keeping Potter's could chime in on that, it would be appreciated.

I also know that I run the risk of losing some corals if I add these fish and I am willing to take that chance and would likely give my LPS to a fellow reefer before that became an issue.

So basically, I am trying to determine if I can keep a pair of dwarf angels in a 40 Breeder along with a pair of B/W clowns. Guess I cold have just said that and been done with it :lol: Thanks!

Interesting idea, I have no clue. :lolspin: I have a 35g FOWLR with a pair of True percs clowns only, I've been looking into the flame angel as my next acquisition for quite sometime. I'm looking forward to hearing the replies to your inquiry.

I can find sources that indicate individual DAs require anywhere from 30 to 70gallons but I have been unable to find a recommendation on the size needed to keep a pair. Hopefully we will both benefit from those experinced with these fish. Thanks!

I would bet that a pair of cherubs would work fine, i might find out along with you in a few months when my 40breeder gets filled. I have kept a pair of cherubs before in a 28 bowfront and it worked fine for the 6-7 months they lived there. I think in my case it worked because this was an established pair and i had a lot of lr in there with tons of caves and crevices.

Thanks for the feedback on your experience. I definitely intend to purchase an established pair (likely from live aquaria). I have a number of nice caves in my rock work as well.

Im not sure where you are but if you go with the cherubs another place to almost always find pairs is inland aquatics in terre haute, Indiana.

I plan to keep a pair of centropyge(not sure which yet) in a 40 breeder this summer. I'm going to try and get them to spawn and collect the eggs.

Thank you. I'm in Tallahassee, FL so if they ship I might give them a try. Seems like LA sells out of most new pairs in 30 seconds or less.

Inland ships, just get in contact with them. The website is outdated but im sure if you call them they should be able to help. Personally if i go with cherubs im going to drive down there and pickup(it helps that my gf is from that same town so i have somewhere to stay overnight and we can visit the inlaws).

Obviously they weren't a 'mated pair' but he did a good job sending the right specimens.
