dwarf golden eel

They are very hardy eels.....and will eat mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, tiger shrimp,octopus,squid...and pretty much anything meaty....I fed my eels some canned tuna and salmon.....They will grow pretty fast but only to a max size of 12 inches.....The Golden Dwarf Eel is not agressive and is a reef safe eel.....aloha Les

will the freeze dried krill work?

how often and how much would you feed say one golden dwarf eel?

thanks!

make sure it is a dwarf and not a baby banana eel. Bananas are sold sold as dwarfs all the time, most dwarf goldens are tan in color not yellow and the dwarf has cat like pupils, bananas have round pupils. Ive heard of many people buying dwarf and it getting 36" long. My LFS had a 8" yellow eel and we did research and found it to be a baby banana eel. But if your lucky enough to get one they're supposed to eat mysis with no problems. I've been looking for one for 3 years. All I keep finding is baby bananas.

It may not take dried food. In any event, you'll need to feed it more than just one thing (i.e., not just krill) to keep it healthy. It will need variety of meaty foods to keep from developing nutritional deficiencies that could shorten its life. You can buy uncooked frozen seafood at the store - shrimp, scallops, squid, etc.

Put the food chunks on a feeding stick, wiggle it around and watch the action - great fun indeed.
Watch out for your water parameters though. Eels eat a lot and therefore generate a lot of waste.

i'm worried about my parameters.....till I get the hang of care and feeding, I'm housing this guy in a 10g nano. He's the only occupant in there along with the live rock. I'll need to move him to the 240 eventually. Hope I can keep the nano under control with frequent water changes till I'm ready to move him.
