DID I SOUNDS SMRT??
Hey all,

A while ago I visited a local reefing buddy and took my camera a long. He has some exceptional corals and overall beautiful tank.

Anyway I thought I would share with RC.

The blue and purple/red Aussi and that pink/purple tenuis are insane! I wonder how long they've been in there? Is the pink acro over the Acans the same as the pink tenuis colony?

Neat looking tank, it will be packed in another 6 months or so!

nice tank !(and pics !)
seems to be easier to find nice frags in ontario than in quebec !
still looking for that setosa...

Great looking tank. Some of those corals are rarely seen grown well in captivity, like the A.abrotinoides. How nice does that monti look like in person that is in the first Crazy Aussie Spathulata picture? It kind of looks like a superman digi.

Dwayne is a member here so maybe he will come on and answer some of your question about his system.

I agree. The abrotinoides and a.spathulata are two that really come to mind.

Yes that one is a superman digitata.....seems to be rare to get this one to do well in captivity as well.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

The tank has been running for approx 14 months, I upgraded from a 135 that was a packed fruit stand. I knew I wanted something new, clean with no wires and no hood. I decided on a Elos 150xl and couldn't be happier, its kinda sexy (for a glass box :) ) I started with an Illumina 5ft 200 but could not make it work for me, ended up losing many, many colonies and LE frags. I went back to what I know and bought a 60" ATI Powermodule and it absolutely rocks.
Bubble King 200, 800ml of bio pellets, Vortechs everywhere for flow and a boring old yellow return pump with little flow, just enough to get water up the 20ft of pipe from my sump in the basement. I have recently started Balling and am impressed with it so far, although it is expensive with the Fauna Marin salts compared to my CA reactor

Other than that I change 30g of water every week, blow my rock off and mix my sand bed with a MJ1200, use socks on my overflow pipe, and feed more PE mysis than any sane person would ever do.

Its funny that I can grow odd pieces that some have trouble with because there are a few SPS that I just can't make happy. e.g.. Ponape Birdsnest. had a softball sized colony before my upgrade and killed it plus 2 more frags since.

I follow many of the same principles as Darryl V does, my biggest problem is.... ME.
I am always trying new stuff, when I go back to basics I have the most luck

I have Cyano that I just haven't had any luck getting rid of plus a small BA outbreak but other than that things are coming along nicely

Thanks again to Darrly V for taking some great pics, thats why I don't post much, cannot take a good picture to save my life.

That is my favourite piece right now, have only seen it once before. I bought it from a local store in Toronto. Has been in this tank for about four months, I actually had a large colony but lost all but this piece that was actually a 2" frag that has grown back out. I have one small piece banked in case it does it again.

Apparently I am collecting Tenius right now, have a Marshal Isl blue blue, a Rainbow and that once is called Cotton Candy. Maybe the coolest piece I have but a slow grower. The Rainbow is also very nice but it is still one inch and refuses to grow much. Its in the background on one of the above pictures

Thanks

Nothing easy about my SPS journey :)

I have emptied my wallet more than a few times and shed more than a few tears and drops of blood LOL

Many of my frags have come locally but some have come from the US as well

Thanks !
The Abrat is one of those pieces that kinda makes me proud :)
Believe it or not I bought it for $60.00 as a brown ugly POS and it has really come around with very good growth, all those spikes are new !

The Superman digi is a good grower for me but I had a setback when I was trying to extract a SPS eating Emerald crab. It os now in about 20 pieces :(
Frags for SALE !

great tank! what t5 bulbs do you run?

Thanks man.

PM 8 bulb from back to front all ATI, Im a big fan of ATI bulbs but get nice growth and colour from Geismann as well

As you can see I ilke Blue LOL

This give me a very bright 20k look during the day and a nice mild actinic to look at during the night when I am mostly enjoying the tank. I have a LED strip being made to get a little more punch but will only run it if I can conceal it completely behind the ATI

I have a frag tank downstairs being lit by a 24" Illumina ( I cannot give up yet on LED) that is looking pretty darn good. I will eventually try LED as main lighting again one day.
I have an Elos System 70 at work that I have been playing with that it is being lit by a new Radion. Jury is still out, I have mixed results so far but love the light and hope it works out

Thanks

Dwayne

Great tank! You have some very nice and unique pieces. I especially like the Aussie in the 2nd and 3rd pics!

The "Crazy Aussie Spathulata" is absolutely gorgeous and is exactly what I have been looking for. (you dont have any frags, do you? :)) The Acropora Abrotinoides is also a really fine piece you have turned. Did you guys see the new growth on it!?

Congrats on a beatiful setup.
