I need some advice on making a stand for my 90 Gallon reef tank. OEM stand has started to sink on one side due to some older water damage and I am need a solution for replacing it. Current system including tank and stand has been operational for over 5 years. Would like to upgrade to a larger rectangular tank (6 foot) but budget doesn't allow at moment.
Basic layout of tank is a corner design bow front with a square rear (unlike a true corner tank with V rear design (pic below). I had previously used Rocket's design for a 50 cube and sump and went well. I used 2 x 4 for structure and a 3/4" birch top. I do not use any sump in the 90 build though it would be nice to have if design allows. Never considered nor knew of overflows back when "virgin" to reefing, and not sure if rear of tank is tempered or not.
I was thinking of building a square front cabinet that V's to follow the sides and square rear, keeping same side wall clearance for MP40's I use (rear of tank/stand now sits 14" from rear wall V, and about 6" from each side wall).
If I build the front and top so that the center of bow sits on top of 3/4" top and upper joist, and each side sits on corner joists, would I have enough support for the bow areas that sit between on just the 3/4" top? If needed, I could double the top to a pair of 3/4" surfaces.
Aquarium is 48" wide at corners, and 24" deep, 24" wide at back section.
