dying caleurpa?

i have a new (2 months old) 29 gallon tank with a 10 gallon refugium (4 inch sand bed, 5 lbs live rock, handful of caleurpa) and it seems that the caleurpa is dying. its turning brown and some is turning clear and dying off. i barely have any bio-load, i have 40 lbs live rock in my 29 and only 1 fish, a royal gramma. whats causing this die-off? should i be worried about anything?

Your lighting may be the key. I have been told that periodically, the Caleurpa goes "sexual" or "asexual" and that is when it then dies (becomes white) and pollutes your tank. I have been told that you must have light on it 24hours a day to prevent this.
