Dying Reef Biotope

After watching some PBS nonsense I found a new niche in the saltwater hobby.

With all the damages that have been done to the natural reefs there are many areas that are starting to look quite desolate. Rather than recreate the thriving, colorful reef I decided to base my new nano on what a lot of the reef looks like now. Or will look like soon.

In order to recreate this biotope I used 4 pounds of live rock, and 25 pounds of live sand inside a 27 gallon cube. (20X18X20) No inverts or fish are necessary to recreate this portion of the reef. There is no filtration except a Rio 290 GPH pump. Lighting is provided by a Marineland Double Bright LED. And that's it. I top off the water to keep salinity consistent and on occasion I have been known to change some of the water.

I am very proud of my new slice of the reef. Er... former slice of the reef. Thanks for looking and I welcome your questions and comments.

You are absolutely right, our oceans are diminishing by the day and people don't know it.
It may seem like a joke to others but I as a reefer take this to heart.

Thank you for these. Before starting the hobby everyone should have to read about the reefs. The good, the bad and the ugly.

Be responsible for your marine life

Gathering the necessary equipment to help clean up the reef. Very meticulous research and skilled shopping are required to give this reef a fighting chance at recovery and keep it on budget.

More to come

Official build thread to begin in April

that is crazy i was in africa not too long ago and the reef was amazing to go swimming in but im with a bunch of dummy heads and they dont respect it as much as i do and are stepping all over the hard coral and all kinds of things destroying it i told them that it takes years and years to build but they didnt care it was very sad for me, but on a better note a blue regal tang about a foot long was attacking alot of the swimmers made me happy

Thanks for the support! Looking forward to helping my reef go from dying to thriving.

If the worlds reefs decline too much lets do more than just protect them. Let us, as reef aquarists, help repopulate them! If you appreciate and respect your reef take time to consider the most responsible way of pursuing your hobby. It is very fragile and not to be taken lightly.

Bulk Reef Supply, Marinedepot, Petsolutions and Big Al are all very happy with me today. Got my mass ordering done. Unfortunately the guy I was buying a light from found another buyer before I could get there to get it. Wish he told me earlier... I ordered a new lamp for it. Guess I will be building a light and making yet another order to hellolights.com

In order to turn this dying reef to a thriving reef I am going to have to put a lot of time into it. The transformation begins soon.

This is my favorite nano so far, great message, subscribing and following this thread. Love the mini trash can.:lolspin:

Good links too rkaragozler

Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. I think we can all do something to help. We are all very much involved in the oceans and if we do nothing else we can at least respect what we have and take the best possible care of it while it is living in our homes.
