just brought fish home in a bucket. SGs match. I don't want to move them into a bag to float for temp. I threw a small powerhead and heater in the bucket. Once I match temps I'm planning on just putting them in.
Not a great idea. Other water chemistry differences need to be accounted for. I'd look up a guide to acclimating saltwater fish. Drip acclimation is my go to method and would work for you too if you have some extra tubing laying around.
Huh. I read a lot where they say match your qt to the source tank and just float for temp. That is what I'm doing except I have the source water up to temp and just want to add the fish.
I have never lost anything be it fish or coral because I didn't acclimate. And sometimes I don't. Most of the time I do drip acclimate to minimize stress. However when you are doing TTM or dipping corals you really cannot acclimate so there is that.

I wouldn't worry about it. When doing TT I just temp match. Like I mentioned above we are concerned with minimizing stress so do what you can especially if the animal is already looking stressed.

I guess time will tell. They are all lyretail Anthias. One female is swimming around happy as can be. The male is laying on his side hidden. He was breathing real heavy at first but it has slowed. The other female is well hidden but upright. It was a 90 minute car ride which is much longer than usual for me with fish, hence why I went the bucket route with about 2 gallons of water. But all 3 laid on the bottom of the bucket as soon as they were put in there. So hopefully just stress.
I've done some google searching and this doesn't seem uncommon. I won't mess with anything. I'll see if they get more active and feed a bit in a while.
