EcoBak Pellets - Can I do away with my chaeto?

I have a HUGE mass of chaeto in a refugium. That is all that is in that refugium section, just alot of chaeto with a light over it. I am about to start running the WM EcoBak pellets in a reactor. I would like to take all the chaeto out and use that compartment for a frag growout area instead. Plus, it would be easier to keep my sump clean without all the chaeto bits floating around and the detritus that collects in and under it. It grows quickly and seems to be doing a good job for my tank, but with starting the EcoBak, can I do away with the chaeto mass?

Id keep the cheato and see how it grows and does over the next month. Keep an eye on its growth and color. If it becomes a pale/light green then its starving and your pellets are doing the job for nutrient export and getting rid of your cheato would be okay.

One other thought or question, if I did do away with my fuge, since it takes the bacteria in the EcoBak about a month or so to colonize, I was thinking I should leave the chaeto in for that first month, is that correct thinking?

I would leave the chaeto in. At some point it will stop growing or start to die-off. That is the point I would remove it as your EcoBak will be at the point where it is out-competing the cheato.

Leave it in keep the stability of your tank, and wait and see if your cheato is effected and ten remove the cheato slowly.
