Ecotech Radion XR15 for a 24 x 19 x 19 rimless.

Hello all.

Need some opinions on a setup I want to look into. Setting up a JBJ 30 rimless- I currently have an AI Prime led module for it which from some dry experiments seems to provide more than enough coverage... However- after using the AI Prime for a few months on a 5 and 10 gallon.... I am not 100% sure I like the mechanics as it is a little hard to get dialed in correctly.

Can anyone provide thoughts on an Ecotech Radion XR15w Pro or provide some potential alternatives that have a nice track history with growth pattern and health- I am not as concerned with color as i am with overall health and growth- I'd be using solatubes if I could but i live in an old townhouse where that isn't an option....

Overall I would be aiming to keep monti caps, some digitata, maybe some Birdsnest as far as SPS is concerned and various polyps, and some lps at some point.

Thanks,

Kris Hollen

have you thought about an AI Hyrda 26?

i got one of these to hang over my display fuge cube 24"x24"x24". i blew a driver board on one of my vegas so i stole the Hydra26 to temporarily run on one slot in my main tank.

i got some nice growth out of it. i had a large motni cap, several acros, and some LPS below it for about 6 weeks or so, and was seeing some nice growth.

not sure what kind of settings changes it is capable of, i have the old school AI controller, so it may be limited compared to some of their newer control modules.

Yes I was thinking about those but are they able to link to your computer? The radion says to link via I will have to look more into the AI's. with the Coverage and Shadowing- did you get decent full coverage with the AI's?

strange it cut out the middle of the last note.... The radion can connect via usb to your comp to control- can the AI's do that as well?

Hmm that's a good question. I don't think so, but I'm not sure bout the newer ones. I know my Vegas don't. I assumed the Hydra 26 was the same, but I haven't looked.

The coverage is very good. I said 24 cube before, I meant 20". I was actually surprised when I hung it over the main tank that it covered almost the same area as the Vega.

hydra is on the left.

i would bet that you can't hook the light directly to the computer like the ecotech, but would probably end up needing the AI Director or something. i have the little old school AI controller that looks kind of a like an ipod knock off. it actually picks up my hydra as a vega for some reason, so it is trying to use the same settings as the 4 lights on the main tank. at some point i will probably try the director to see if i can adjust it independent of the other lights, because it is bright.
