EcoTech VorTech mp40/20

I've had the 40 and 10's. They are not dead silent. Tunzes are definately quieter, but that is a design compromise by having the motor external and not damped by water.
If you run them full bore all the time, they might be annoying. Some are louder than others for some reason. Maintenance is easy. I put the wetside in a vinegar bath for 30-60 min every so many months, then rinse and return to the tank. Takes a tiny bit of effort to re-align to minimize vibrations.

So does anyone know if they have worked out some of the kinks with them breaking..Last time I worked with one was 1st gen and they just came out...one broke and I was able to get replacement parts but it was still pretty new...Just curious is tunze still more reliable?

The first gen had uncoated magnets and that is solved. Then there were bushing issues, but they use better ones now (they sent me free replacements).
I've never had any issues with any of my vortechs beyond a bushing wearing out after a couple years (expected). Other people have had issues. Not sure if they still are or if the problem is solved. Ecotech has ime had very good customer support.
Tunze are really good pumps too. I'd get them if I could handle a big monster in the tank. I prefer the more elegant look of vortechs.

Ya they have been out for a while now, the mp60 is new, is that what you are talking about rain?

Anyway gomer that is what finely wore out on mine I think! The part that wore out was the little white lock washer next to the baring and when it did it rubbed on the wet side housing and messed it up…
I have ordered both replacement parts already surprisingly very easy (on there website) still trying to get the right parts for my old tunzes they are sitting in the garage.
