Eel for a 44 gallon pentagon

It is 2' tall and has about 45#s of live rock. Would a snowflake eel or wolf eel be comfortable? I can feed frozen and freeze-dried foods.

I'd say the Wolf wouldn't be comfortable, but it is do-able. I wouldn't try it with an adult SF eel. If you have the budget of a few hundred $(which with your situation of a crazy mom, I doubt :lol2 a Golden Dwarf would be okay.

Actually, I found a place that can sell me a golden dwarf for $199, and I've been saving up.

That would be your best bet, I wouldn't try a Snowflake in that small of a tank.

Anything bigger than the dwarf will be cramped eventually and I personally wouldn't put any eel in there.
