in terms of things like brooknellya, velvet, whitespot, popeye etc...

are eels susceptible to the same disease or parasites that fish are? or only certain ones? any more info?

To the best of my knowledge, all of the same diseases/pathogens can effect them. That said, they're usually much more resistant to parasitic infections; their slime coat is thicker and slightly toxic.

Bacterial infections are generally the most common disease issue I've seen with eels. I wouldn't say they're more prone to them than traditional fish, but they do often have trouble with them if their slime coat gets abraded or damaged.

will products like stress guard increase the slim coat on a healthy eel or have no effect

I wouldn't expect them to have any effect if the eel is otherwise healthy.

can you treat with copper?

Copper should never be used with eels - it's poisonous to them. So are organic dyes (like methylene blue and malachite green).
