Egg Crate

So, I've got to get rid of the glass tops on my tank cause temp is getting too high. I was gonna buy some white egg crate and make tops to keep fish from jumping out. But they had some silver egg crate @Lowe's on the display, but not on the shelf. Has anyone seen/used the silver for this type of application? If its something that's gonna flake off I don't wanna use it, but I thought it might help reflect light into the tank better.

If its a plastic eggcrate with just foil type silver coating Im sure it will flake off over time, but I wouldn't think it would for some time though if it ever does, might just fade out. But I have seen that flat white does a better job reflecting then metal does, its wierd but seems to be true.
