Egg Crate

I've got to move my tank in the next few weeks (House move) and I'm going to correct one of my original errors (Didn't use egg crate under my live rock).
I have looked into how others are using egg crate and it appears it is being used in a number of ways.....

Live rock on top of egg crate. (No gap under).
Egg crate Raised on legs.
Egg crate Raised on legs with sand under.
Egg crate Raised on legs with skirting used to stop sand getting under.

If Raised how high should it be ?

What's everyone else doing ? What's best ?

I think that the best method would be to put the egg crate and then the sand over the egg crate i would not put egg crate on legs with all that weight on there

I put my egg crate in first then my sand. using a DSB so I probably didn't even need the egg crate, but it's there now.

+1, egg crate on the bottom, live sand from my nano poured over the egg crate and then #1 agg on top for the display area. I also used a pc of egg crate on the back wall because I had a pc of rock leaning up against it and wanted a little extra protection.

In the US I found white egg crate in Home depot (major hardware chain) in the lighting section with all the large overhead fluorescent lights.
