Eheim 1262 Vibrations

Hey - I have been running an Eheim 1262 for about 6 months now and from the beginning I have had quite a hum from it.

I keep reading about how quiet these pumps are suposed to be and I wonder if it is perhaps not working correctly. This is my first marine tank and so I have no other return pumps to compare the noise with.

I do know that it feels like it vibrates the whole sump and makes a resonant sound into the room behind the tank. With all of the information saying Eheim pumps are very quiet I thought I might just throw this out and see what others have to say about it.

Here is a picture of how I have it plumbed:

I am using 1" flexible tube that connects to 1 1/4" PVC for a TEE. That then moves to 2 individual 3/4" returns.

The pump sits on a silicon pot holder in the sump but this does not seem to help the vibrations. I am not using the foam strainer for the pump.

Any ideas? Or is a heavy HUM noise expected from the return pump.

(One other note - I have an ASM G3 skimmer and the Eheim 1262 is louder than the Sedra 5000 that drives the skimmer.)

Thanks!

I have a very similar setup to you, I'm using my Eheim 1262 as my return pump.

Here it is during my leak test. I have only turned it on a few days now, but it's quite silent. It's not as silent as my Velocity T4 pump (now named Poseidon PS4), because it does make a small humm..that is comparable to my fridge's motors humm..but it's nothing big.

Small humm... Well I guess sound would be relative - my big concern is the noise in the adjacent bedroom in my case.

I am debating on getting a 1260 to replace it with and see if there is much difference.

Yeah, I have one of these on my calcium reactor and it does sometimes make a lot of noise for a pump its size. Sometimes it is totally silent though.
