Electronic Ballast Repair

I am not quite sure. I bought 2 coralvue 400w ballasts and several seconds after firing a lamp both of them blew. There was a spark, and then they quit working. The fans in them still work. I called the manufacturer and they sent me 2 new ones and did not want these back. I figure if I can get them fixed for a reasonable cost they will be good for backups.

I think I will take one apart and see if I can see anything obvious.

Here are some pictures. I highlighted the part that apparently blew in yellow. The same part blew on both ballasts.

That is a resistor and looks to be in the power supply section. They don't just blow for no reason... There is another component that is shorted, the wrong value or put in backwards on both boards.

Bring it to the meeting and we can take a look. The resistor is an easy fix if we can figure out what caused it to blow. I will also try to remember to bring some of the green candy cane.

Hey let me know what you find. I just got 2 400w Dimmable coralvue ballast also and one made a loud pop noise and stopped working the first time It was on. Im wondering if its the same problem you had.

Sounds like it.

Call the place you got them from. They replaced mine but did not ask for these back.

Well I told the store I got them from and they said they were waiting on 2 other replacments already and that Coralvue is not sending anymore ballast out until they get the dimmable 400w UL listed.
Im going to try and contact Coralvue directly tomorrow and find out if he can send me some replacments.
