What causes the enlarged tentacles on these RBTAs ?

I have some that do that as well...and some in the same tank that don't.

Perfectly healthy and eat like champs...I'm wondering the same thing!

I know nothing, but could it be a fish nipping at it? Reason I say to is b/c some tentacles seem fine.

No that's not it...b/c my fish stay in a separate anemone that looks nothing like these.

I believe it may have to do with either lighting or water quality....those are my two guesses...b/c originally these nems didnt look like this in my tank.

Check phosphates as mine didn't start until I got a little cynao in the tank...its disappearing now so we'll see.

IME, my nems had exhibited similar tenticle distortion like yours due to being beat up against rocks or other things via being blown around in the current. I have observed a perfectly formed RBTA be placed in a new spot in the tank and the new flow caused it to bash the tenticles against a nearby rock. Upon healing the bumps and tears in the flesh the end result looked like yours.

Essential its like scar tissue. As far as negative affect, I observed none.

I have to disagree with andymh; I have a few nems that have looked like this and they're perfectly happy nems. They eat like pigs (as much as I want to feed them) and they have great deep rose color.

I'm still not convinced its a water or light issue...although it could be b/c I have other nems in the same tank that do not exhibit the same symptoms...I think it could be a genetic thing...the same reason that BTAs will have "chemical war" on each other yet still be the same species...

Its like the question of why do some BTAs bubble up and why do some have long stringy tenticles....
