Eliminate Ich in quarantine tank

I recently lost a battle with Ich and a Hippo tang in my q-tank - it was a long 5-6 week battle.

Anyhow - The tank is currently hypo'ed and I have had no fish in it for about two weeks. Since the tank is 40 gallons, I'd rather not drain everything for the next fish, however I also want to make sure the parasite is all dead from the tank and my bio-filter (use bio-balls).

Can somebody recommend the best way to verify all the parasite would be dead? I guess I can drain the entire tank if I had to.

Thanks,
Ron

you could do 1 of 3 things.
1. drain and scrub tank- let stay dry for 2-3 days
2. lower sg way down to like 1.006 and raise the temp to 90
3. blast the tank with copper for 3 weeks

Option 2 sounds good. I'm not too far from 1.006 - how long would I have to maintain this level?

Thanks,
Ron

i would keep it there for at least 1 full documented lifecycle which is about 32 days. the higher temp has been noted to speed that cycle up,,basically they should hatch hopefully much soon than that..but, mind as well be certain as you have time to be.

Hrm - OK, thanks for the input. I'm worried so I think I'll drain the tank and let it stand for a few days dry. I think I'm about ready for a 40g water change in my main tank anyhow!
