Hello i heard that the elkhorn might be added to the protected species list soon. When that happens does that mean that it is illegal to have one in our tanks, if we got it before it was added? Thanks

Yes, `elkhorn' is a term like `brain' denoting multiple corals.

Acropora palmata, one of the Atlantic Acropora varieties - has been illegal to collect for a while now.

Given it's reputed to be most difficult to keep [and couldn't grow into a natural size in our tank] ... and generally brownish ... probably best left where it's still surviving in the wild.

Go and dive to see it. Nothing beats Acropora branches as thick as your thigh :D

Took them myself in Bonaire when diving fall 2005 :)

Some of the few good ones ... underwater photography makes reef tank photography look like a day in the park.

Sadly, Lenny in '99 smashed a lot of the palmata/elkhorn and cervicornis/staghorn in the near-shore areas [so I was told] ... but I sure enjoyed seeing Atlantic Acropora in-context.
