I here a lot of people in my local forum using these with a lot of success especially with ultra low nutrient tanks. Im just looking for some advice on it this is worth trying out or a waste of money.
Most people offset the outtake of vodka dosed or any other method of dragging your nutrients to nothingness with an AA such as aqua vitro's fuel or elos AA's orsome other form of fatty acids.
I am no scientist but its very common.
I tried it... I didnt see where it worked... I dont do it anymore but then again I dont dose vodka or bail or anything else that pulls my tank down like a zeovit or something. Biopellets whatever...
According to Randy over in the chemistry forum, corals mostly generate their own aminos, rendering those that we add useless. He suspects that they might be able assimilate the acetate from vinegar dosing.
I have done reefplus amino from seachem. Makes my skimmer crazy for 24 hrs. I havent seen anything different after 4 weeks of use. I havent tried elos or any diffrent brands.
Well it seems my tank is running very low on nutrients. My LPS corals are shriveled up and I'm getting no algae growth at all. I'm running bio pellets and trying to feed more but it's not helping. I haven't been able to detect po4 or nitrates in so long. I thought maybe some AA might help.
I bought a bottle. Expensive stuff. I used it pretty much according to the directions for a
while and I did not see any difference. Now I use it irregularly and pretty much wish I did
not spend my money on this product. I continue to use it because after spending so much
I am too much of a wuss to admit I made a mistake and will not toss it out.
My tank is basically all monti/acropora. It is not a perfect tank. My coral's color could be
better but this product was not a silver bullet that could help with it. My growth is
excellent though.
So to those looking for a silver bullet.. look elsewhere.
I tried Elos and Zeovit amino acids looking for something to help color up my corals. I found no benefit whatsoever, got a nice algae bloom out of it. I didn't have many fish and didn't feed much because I was worried about increasing nutrient levels. Turns out what worked best for me was getting more fish and feeding them more often.
