Emergency Green Birdsnest under attack!

All I noticed a pinkish sort of algae growth on my green birds nest yesterday morning, I get home this afternoon and its doubled in size and its clearly killing my otherwise very healthy birds nest from the outside in one spot. Its growing exactly like a fire would.

Suggestions help... anything appreciated.
Everything else in my tank looks good.

I have been operating without a skimmer for about 6 months and I turned it back on about 6 days ago. Related???

I'm not sure exactly what that is, but I'd suggest fragging off everything that is diseased, or within an inch or so of the disease areas ASAP.
