Emergency kit !!!

have you ever been doing maintenance on your tank, or skimmer, and decide to go all out, or make sure all the salt/calcium build up is off. Then the unexpected happens (that why they call it unexpected).

You break the impellar. Or the heater element breaks. Your sump springs a leak...

Never Fear ! the emergency kit is here!!

well, it will be. I think there are two solutions.

1) we start an emergency kit for things that we may need, and the LFS is closed, or its late, outta stock...etc

2) you buy extras for every possible thing that can go wrong.

I suggest we start an emergency kit. Centrally located. Just in case...

Suggestions anyone?

Yep! I think that it has happened to all of us at one point or another in this hobby.

Not to long ago, I went w/o a skimmer for about a month. It would have not been a big deal if I knew what an ATS was at that time (in the process of building one). I was cleaning the skimmer that came stock w/RSM and let me tell you, that thing is huge!!!! Any ways, cleaning away, took out the airline feed, and stuck a skewer in the small nozzle of the skimmer to clean out the junk. Well, the skewer got stuck and managed to break of the skewer and nozzle clean. There was no meat left over to attach the air line feed.:hammer:

The cool thing w/this form is that at any moments notice, from what I have observed, is that the members here are willing to help whenever they can. They are incredibly nice!!! So now what I know, I would not hesitate to ask the members in this forum if I were in need of something on an emergency type basis. Just my .02 cents.

see, it is clear that the need is there. Maybe we all haven't experienced an emergency situations, but it's only a matter of when. Will we be prepared as a club to support one another?

i have gotten rid of a lot my equipment, but i wouldn't mind buying a pump or a few impellers (most popular type) of course. i do have a bag of salt i am willing to donate.

We should keep a working list of important topics to talk about at the next meet.

I agree. That is why I carry extra parts of just about everything: lighting, skimmers, pumps, additives, emergency tank, etc. The wife says to get rid of it but I keep reminding her of the tank that cracked and the broken skimmer. You just never know when you are going to need these parts. And if anyone ever needed an emergency pump or light, I would be happy to lend a hand. No strings attached.

This is a good idea for sure. I have a few things that I could donate. I have an extra skimmer. We have all had emergencies and it is true, ppl from the forum are always willing to help. It would be nice to have a central place to list the extra equipment and supplies that we all have in case someone needs something. Maybe it's not necessary to put everything physically in one place, but to keep a list here of available emergency items.

oh and just for emergency i think things like a tds meter, par meter, and a refractometer would be nice to have.

BECAUSE,

I need a TDS meter. if anyone has one i could borrow. i need to check my RO water to see if my membrane is bad.

Justin "“ I have one you can use. I will take to work with me in the am if you can swing by. If not maybe in the afternoon at my house? Let me know.
