Emperator Angelfish

Ok, who has one of these in their reef tank? I'm thinking of putting one in a 180g sps reef. His only competition would be a PBT. The rest would be anthias and a single six-line.

Anyone got pics of their e. angelfish with sps and/or sps and clams?

Quite a few people keep Emp angels in SPS reefs. The angel experts on here seem to agree that angels are safe with healthy sps. Sick/dying sps may be viewed as food though. Clams are another story and you are playing russian roulette adding non-Genicanthus angels with clams, although plenty of people also do that as well.

PBT's can be nasty fish though and there could be some initial aggression, but hard to say.

It sounds very tempting except the part about clams. I was doing some more reading and people who've had them with clams indicated that they did nip at them a little but never harmed the clam. I know what your saying though....each fish can be very different just like a pbt I use to have who was an ultimate wimp and got bullied to death by a yellow. I don't have any fish in this tank yet so if I do go with an Emp angel, I'd add him at the same time as as similar sized pbt.

Cheers for the post.

like saudaukar sail they do tend to nip on corals/clams that aren't so healthy. i had a clam that wasn't doing to well at one point the mantel was not fully opened everyday and the mouth was wide open. so i tried adding an angel to the tank and immediately went after the clam. i think it's the smell of they let out when they are dying. but i covered up the clam fed it and after a week or two it was healthy again. the angel never picked on the clam again.right now i have a 350g reef with sps/lps/clams and my angels don't bother nothing but acans lol

i've kept 2 in reef tanks, with similar experiences as listed above. the only warning, as he gets bigger, he will likely destroy his tankmates. the one i have now is in a very large aquarium, and he is an absolute jerk FWIW.
