Can't find an ID for his anywhere. Any ideas?

whoa... that's what Swamp Thing's brain is made out of ><

cool looking stuff, hopefully it's not a bad algae.

Clare,

I have no idea. That is very interesting! Is it just a fluid-filled sack like Valonia? How fast does it grow? Where did you get it from?

Kevin

No, it's fleshy, like a cactus flower. Not growing very well, alas. I got from my local fish store, I'll have to find out where it was collected from.

Clare,

I recently read through The Modern Coral Reef Aquarium Volume 1. What you have looks very much like a species of Codium they list.

HTH,
Kevin

Thank you! Good to have an ID. It's not doing so well, though, and has thinned out quite a bit since that pic. :(

I'm sorry greenighs,

What kind of lighting is it under and how far from the lighting is it? Is your water very clean (low nitrates and low phosphates)?

Kevin

I had some of the growing on a piece of rock that my hermits and snails couldnt get (against glass) and as soon as I moved the rock they ate it in one day. It was like they were all waiting for the rock to be accessable. Its a shame, it was a cool algae...
