Epic Nudibranch Battle - Do I kill him now?

So, it was 12:00 am and I was ready to go bed and decided to check things out in the tank before I tuck myself in. Lo and behold I found a 1.25 inch nudibranch. :eek2: I have yet to ascertain the type so I pulled out my always reliable and handy Marine Invertabrates book by Shimek and all things indicate that the sucker could be a tunicate eating nudibranch. Anyway, considering most nudibranches are poisonous, I didn't want to risk the chance of my tank crashing and this could be the only time I'll ever see him. I decided to evict him from the comfortable condo that is my tank.

He began to retreat into one of the holes nearby as my husband tried to get him to crawl onto a piece of straight tubing. Fail!

We waited for him to come out of his rock and after 10 minutes, he did. My husband with his latex glove on tried to pull the sucker off of the rock, but to no avail. At this point, we were really frustrated. :mad2:

So, my husband handed me a pair of chopsticks and using my sharp chopstick skills, I successfully got a grip on him and took him out. Whew!

He is now in a cup and still alive. What should I do? Kill him or is there any harm in keeping him? If I do kill him, what method would be the most humane? Is he even a nudibranch?

I hope he isn't dead by the time most of you read this.

Here's a picture of the bugger

Would this be an okay method? LOL!!!

by reading your post, before i saw your interests, i knew you gamed....MMOs perhaps? thats my guess ^^. Anyway, if you can, keep him alive until morning when the brain trust wakes up, and i bet you will get an awnser one way or another....
many nudibranch are safe (just as many arent though) and further i believe i read they only release toxins when they are eaten, or when they die and decay. My .02. GG!

This is probably Dendrodoris nigra. It's a sponge eater and is harmless in the tank. Also, very few nudibranchs pose any poisoning risk to a tank. Most that do belong to one small family, which almost never hitchhikes in and is rarely collected.

+1 with "No, that's not me" :D By the way, a shotgun works better than a pistol for removing nudibranchs

I think he's dead. Thanks for your input. Surprised only a few of you knew. Shotgun will surely kill him.

Headache - I used to do a lot of gaming. WoW, Everquest, etc...., it didn't do any wonders for my derrier, so off it went. I only dabble in it recreationally every now and then. Reefing is a better hobby physical wise.

If your going to do it do it right. Dont us a small 357mag go with a real gun 44mag that will leave nothing but vaper in the air after your done with it.

Here's a .44 mag round to the left of the 440 GRAIN!! .500 round (and a .45 Colt to the right)

Since we totally taken this thread off the track, I've owned both a .357 and .44 Magnum. Both will effective rid you of any nudibranch problem with zero evidence left over.

I actually prefer the .357, little more accurate and pack just about the same punch as The Dirty Harry, even with hot loads.

LOL! I appreciate all the uh "hardwares" that are essential to reefkeeping.

Nudibranch is dead due to lack of oxygenation.
