Epoxy

I used some Marineland epoxy when I placed some new sps additions in my tank. I find that the putty doesn't hold the piece of sps to anything and I was using so much of it. The flattened blob I stuck to the bottom of the coral would not even stay. I ended up using some Loctite gel and what a difference compared to the Marineland epoxy. I'll never go back to epoxy again.

Out of curiosity, what does everyone else use?

Thanks

I tried some Holdfast Epoxy and I agree, it's crap. I believe out of 20 various pieces of rock and frags that I tried to stick together for aquascaping purposes, I have two pieces of rock still holding. And that piece is covered with half a stick of Holdfast and also some standard two part epoxy. I'm curious if Loctite has any negative impact on a reef setup? I have good access to loctite here at work.....hmmmm.

One of the lfs uses it to mount his frags. Everything in his tank appears to be fine.

i use a mix of the aquamend epoxy (from HD-- like 3 bucks for 2oz.) and super glue gel. get the epoxy mixed, find a place on your rock work for the frag/epoxy put some glue on the epoxy (top, where the coral is mounted and bottom, where it touches the rocks) and then place your frag. you should be good to go.

This is the meathod I use. Holds like a rock. The glue will hold the frag to the epoxy and the epoxy to the rock untill the epoxy hardens. Then, you will have a rock hard bond. The epoxy really won't hold the frag until it hardens. There is an epoxy that I have tried that hardens quickly, but it also heats up and will make your skimmer go crazy. I use either holdfast or aquamend, they both seem to be the same thing just different packaging. HTH.
