lighting- 2-12k-14k 250 MH
protein skimmer- best you can buy
water movement- you want alternating water flow from different angles. the best way to accomplish this is powerheads on a wavemaker. i prefer maxi-jets with the red sea wakermaker.
the maxi-jets can also be modified by cutting off the discharge nozzels at the point where it is connected to the impeller housing. with this mod, when the wavemaker stops and restarts the powerhead it slings water in different directions.

Brewer and Reefer
For lighting you should supplement the MH with VHO URI Super Actinics for best florescence. Or go with my lighting preference for LPS, VHO only.
For alternating flow I'm using a SCWD on a closed loop. Cosmetically nicer, but only directs flow from two directions. Combined with the flow from the sump return, I get some random current flow.
Can't argue with the best skimmer possible suggestion, but it sure is a lot of fun getting a group of reefers to agree on what the best skimmer is!!
