Equipment/Frag Room Ventilation

I recently changed my system and now have a 150 gl sump, 30 gl fuge, 60 gl frag tank and 60 gls of top off and mix water in my basement. The humidity was tolerable until recently with the warmer weather. What is everyone doing to vent their equipment rooms? Would a lg bathroom fan vent the room enough? The room is currently not blocked off from the rest of the basement so it is in a large area, approx. 25 by 30.

Thanks,
Chip

I just had the same problem.

I have a very similar set up to what you have. I put a 100 cfm fan that vented out of the house. I put the return air line as close to the floor in the basement as possible as I assume that high humidity air is more likely to be at the floor. I will test this with a humidity gage as soon as I get one.

I switched out the supply air for the house with a 6" supply line instead of the 4" that the house was built with. I run the house fan full time so that it mixes the outside air throughout the whole house. My HVAC guy added a auto switch to the AC so that the fan kicks up when the AC comes on and switches back to low speed when the AC is off.

In theory the air in the house should mix up pretty good before it is dispersed into the house. the High humidity air is the air that is pulled out of the house.

I still need to add a humidity switch to auto kill the 100 cfm fan when the humidity gets to low....probably a bigger deal in the winter. I also need to close in the room so that the high humidity air stays confined and is pulled out.

I can give you the name of my HVAC guy who helped me with the whole thing.

I have the fishroom basement arrangement too. All 600 gallons of it.

I have Two 4 inch fans mounted together and in the glassblock window vent (little window hatch removed) pumping out air out of my basement 24/7 year round.
I have a dehumidifier designed for a 2400 sq ft home running in the basement 24/7 set at 30% or max setting.

The arrangement is not very green, but I have -0- humidity issues and -0- smells from skimmers and ozone etc. My wife is allergic to everything except me so the venting and dehumidity overkill was a requirement. Since there must have been mold and mildew growing for she was constantly having problems whenever she would venture into the basement this solution appears to have done the trick.

When we move there will be no equipment or addons to remove or change out other than putting the little window vent cover back into the glassblock window.

I also have a large fish room in the basement... I have a 150 gallon sump 100 gallon mix tank, 150 gallon frag tank and 75 gallons of fuge. All of this is in a 12x12 room and without work it would litterly rain in the room.

Currenly I have a QT300 exhaust fan from Home depot (about $170) exhausting air out and have sealed off the room from the rest of the house.

I also have a 40pint per day dehumidifier running with a drain line so the bucket isn't an issue.

In addition I control the QT300 with a humidity controller I picked up at Phishy Business.

I have issues keeping the house cool because of all of the extra head produced from the fish tank and fish room and am currently exploring additional methods to add to the solution.
