Equipment

Starting my tank back up after 3 years and I was wondering what equipment my fellow fowlr's were using on there system, I have a 125gl non rr

Lots of flow is always a good thing. Media reactors are fairly common nowadays. I run GAC and GFO in my tanks. I have a fairly large AquaC skimmer on my 220 which pulls out some serious gunk. Consider a small refugium in your sump or along side to help bring down the nitrates and phosphates. I've just added one to my setup here in the last two weeks.

I agree with all above but folks the guy says his 125g tank is NON RR!

I would seriously consider buying a RR tank. Your current tank limits you to canister and hang on filters and no sump! Plus you need to get an internal or ext skimmer I would get no smaller than a 180. Good luck.

Angelfish 7, I have to disagree with the needing a rr, I have used a overflow box for years and have never lost suction, before I moved I was using a wet dry with a crappy protein skimmer, won't do that again, a rr would be better but I think I will be fine but I do appreciate your response

You can actually have a sump with an overflow box but I personally don't like them due to the flooding potential.

Yeah I hear you, I am actually considering drilling it or go with the lifereef overflow, their track record seems to be flawless, nothing but great things said about them on other threads

I have a lifereef overflow box currently on my 40B w/ 20g sump and it has never failed through several power outages. I've owned it for a little over 2 years now and it works just as good as the day I got it.
