Does anyone have any pictures or ideas of what this drain kit may look like? Im trying to understand what this is exactly. This is from Euro-reef's website and priced at $70. I've done a search without success.

1" Drain kit for skimmer cup. Includes 1" Flex Tank Adapter and 1"D x 3" PVC pipe so you can set up the drain as you wish. Also includes Arbor, pilot drill bit and holes saw for proper sized hole. Fits all 12" diameter skimmers.

i would just drill a hole on thew bottom of the collection cup and put a john guest fitting in it, neat, clean, and not $70:)

I also noticed that my new Euroreef has vent holes in the top of the collection cup....isn't that going to release the smell of the skimmate??

what ER calls a "flex tank adapter" is a Uni-Seal to the rest of us ;)

after installing that, you would insert the 1" pipe and then plumb it with regular pvc/vinyl tubing to to a drain/receptacle

can't explain the lofty price - they also sell the arbor, drill bit, and hole saw seperately - add those individual items up - you may come a bit closer to their pkg price of $70

Its the price of the arbor and bit that brings up the price. I would suggest using the proper bit if you plan to drill through the side off collection cup which is what there kit is intended for. If I was to DIY on mine I would drill through the bottom of the collection cup and Tap the hole to fit a valve it would be safer and cheaper.

Why the heck would you want a 1" drain for a skimmer cup anyway?

I'd use a smaller drain in the bottom.

I thought that too.. but size shouldnt matter for this anyways. Its just a drain. :)
