euro reef restart cause overflow

Does anyone out there has this problem? everytime after restart, it always overflow a little bit before settling to original level. I have to turn the water level pipe wide open everytime after cleaning then slowly close it back. I am afraid it will overflow incase of power outage, which happens alot here in Southern California.

im certain that the drain pipe is vented on those units.....non-venting is generally the issue with water level changes.
