I am setting up a 29 gallon tank, upgraded from my 20h.

i am thinking of getting the smallest euroreef available but am curious as to whether or not i should just get a coral life super skimmer for now and wait on the euroreef til i buy a bigger tank?

is a euroreef over doing it? it would be a mixed reef tank, with 175 watts of MH and some sps but a lot of lps in there as well and some softies

Have you considered H&S German made recirculating skimmer? They use extremely efficient pumps, much better than the China made pumps.

my vote is go with the ER if thats what you're planning to use when you upgrade anyway.. works great for now and will work great for later..

The ER CS80 is on sale right now from Marine Depot if that is what you are looking into.

I like my ER units.

If you have a sump, which the ER requires, then I'd suggest getting a ER right away, if you intend to have one at some point anyway.

The CSS can be run in-sump or HOB. Two guys at my office are running the CSS and I'd have to say they both work pretty good! For the money it's an awesome skimmer! I think you won't go wrong with either;

- CSS is cheaper than ER and works pretty good, you might not even need to upgrade it.

- ER is proven a proven good skimmer, but more expensive than the CSS. If you plan to buy one AT SOME POINT, then don't waste money and get what you want NOW

check out the h2otropicals.com and look at the 'blem' ER models, i think there is an ES5-3 there for $145 (essentially equivalent to the RS or CS 5-3 series or little bigger than the new RS/CS-80 series, but excruded plastic skimmer instead of newer cast build.. same as the excruded for the ASM skimmers, no difference in terms of performance and shouldn't be able to notice the difference in construction unless you throw the skimmer on the ground). either that or look online RC for a used ER or ASM. had a friend who had a CSS, said it worked well until he got an ER, or was it an ASM.. but whatever works..

im going to run a sump no matter what, and have the skimmer in the sump, so either one would be in sump

eek, thats the second time ive heard that.... euroreefs are all too big/expensive for this small of a tank which i NEED to use a 10 gallon sump for

I think you'll be happy with it. From what I've seen, it works like a champ!

However, you should peruse the RC threads about it and consider doing some of the "failsafe" mods on it. Unless you put it totally in your sump, in which case, no problems.
